Back Research Center The Research Center is the main office for the Coles County Historical Society. It is located in Mattoon just two blocks south of Charleston Avenue in an attractive residential neighborhood. It is located next door to the Gannaway House and is leased from the Lumpkin Foundation for one dollar a year. The Research Center is a former church and serves as the main repository for the Society's artifacts and its collection. It was opened in the fall of 2001. When artifacts are cataloged they then are added to the collection stored in the Research Center. Once they are cataloged they are also entered into a computer program; a list of these will become available on this web page in the future. Interested
parties can make an appointment and view the artifacts. Schools or teachers
interested in having some of the artifacts used for displays or lessons
please should contact the CCHS. |
